Privacy: what leaves your device
What never leaves your device
- Your headlines and ticker text. Written, previewed and rendered entirely in your browser.
- Your media. Backdrop photos, video clips and soundtracks are read locally and drawn or mixed on the canvas — never uploaded. There is no upload step in the product at all.
- Your exports. The MP4/WebM/PNG is encoded on your machine with WebCodecs and downloads straight from the browser. There is no render server and no queue.
This isn't a policy choice we could quietly reverse — it's the architecture. The why it renders in your browser post explains the engineering.
The exception: your account
Exporting requires signing in with a free Google account (via Supabase, our auth provider — sign-in sets an authentication cookie to keep your session). That gives us:
- your account email,
- your plan (free or Pro),
- your usage counts (exports used this month).
That's the complete list. It does not give us your headlines or media — rendering stays local even when you're signed in.
Payments
Pro subscriptions are billed through PayPal. Your card or bank details go to PayPal, not to us — we only receive confirmation that the subscription is active.
What about analytics?
There are currently no analytics trackers on the site, and no ads. If that ever changes, the privacy policy will be updated first. Our hosting provider processes standard request data (IP address, user agent) to serve pages, as every website's host does.
Using it responsibly
The privacy design protects your creative work — it isn't cover for causing harm. Breaking News Maker is for parody and fun: avoid anything unlawful, defamatory or likely to cause distress, and keep your fake news obviously fake.
